Wonderful childhood memories of uncle (big) Jim - Katy in Oz

Created by Katy 4 years ago

I have so many fond memories of Jim from growing up. You could always count on him to lighten the mood and tell a dirty joke, especially if he knew that aunt Liz and nanny Beryl were around.

He loved Christmas and I remember his love of Christmas decorations - one Christmas I remember was in Fleet when the holly on the pudding set on fire.  Dad was rushing around to find something to put out the flames!  I also remember visiting his house in Newmarket on the way home from Heathrow one year and he had all his same decorations with the addition of a giant inflatable santa outside the front door.   I loved those family Christmases.

We had camping trips at Oby, canoeing on the river and his holidays on the Norfolk Broads - I always loved the fact that he rented a cruiser with patio doors and have memories of being on Alton broad watching the speed boat racing.

Whenever we drove over to Reedham, I always wanted to go in Jim's car - he would drive really fast over the bridges and make it feel like we were taking off.

Sadly I haven't seen so much of Jim since moving to Oz, but we did get to see him in 2018 in Lingwood when we celebrated dad's 70th birthday.  I'm so happy that I got to see him, even though he had been very unwell, you could still see that fun side of him.  I'm also really happy that he was able to meet my now husband Jules.

I wish I could be there with the family to celebrate his life and we will be thinking of you all.

Rest in peace Big Jim and thank you for all those fun times.

Lots of love Katy (Kitty) and Jules xxx

P.S. I found this photo the other day and it made me smile - the 90's were not kind to me when it came to haircuts, I think I should have chosen a perm like Sara instead of looking like a boy!  I love the fact that Jim is holding our cat Flu.  xx
